I distinctly remember when my cousin was sick. I was premed at the time. The revolving doors of physicians and other providers entering the room just confused my family more and increased our anxiety. While it sounded like English, they were speaking a language that my family didn’t understand – medical jargon. I remember what it was like being the patient’s terrified and anxious loved one who was writing down terms frantically to google after the doctors left the room. The family member overwhelmed with emotions and questions and adamantly trying to get answers.
At that time, I vowed to become a physician that explains things at a basic level. This is my why.
